How to Fix QuickBooks Error Code QBWC1039

It's possible you may encounter this error in QuickBooks Desktop. Don't worry! This is common and often happens when trying to reconnect the company file to the QuickBooks Web Connector on a new computer.

This error message could be caused by either of these things:

  • The company file was moved from its original location
  • The name of the company file was changed
  • Un-registering from the QuickBooks Web Connector failed, or a third-party application was incorrectly removed from the Web Connector
  • You no longer have the same computer and are trying to re-install the Web Connector on your new setup

How To Fix it:

In order to fix it, you'll need to remove and then re-install the Web Connector. Before we do that, let's first see if these simple steps may solve the problem:

1: Create a backup of the company file
  • First, open the QuickBooks software and the file. Always complete a backup of your QuickBooks files for safety! Switch to Single-user Mode: (Choose File > Switch to Single-user Mode.) You will need Admin Access to do this.
  • Next, click on the File menu and then select the Backup company option
  • Next, select Create local backup. Then choose Local backup
  • Click on the Options tab to open up the backup window and then select Browse.
  • Now select Local hard drive location of the company backup file copy.
  • Click on OK and hit the Save option after the backup is complete.

2: Download and Install the latest release of QuickBooks

Simply installing and updating QuickBooks Desktop may solve the issue.

  • Under the Help menu, choose Update QuickBooks. Save it to the Default downloads folder.
  • Find the downloaded file.
  • Right-click the file and choose Run as Admin and perform the steps given by the Installation Wizard
  • Click on the Finish tab and reboot your computer.

3: Needed Unique OwnerID/FileID pair value

If you've completed the steps above and you're still having the error issue, do the following: Note: This only works on the new computer; please don’t attempt on the original computer.

If you haven’t done so already, download the qbwc file .qwc file for your application.

From within ServiceMonster, follow these steps:

  • Version 6: Go to Marketplace> Quickbooks> Configuration tab. Select QuickBooks Desktop (for users of Version 5: Go to Orders > QuickBooks Export > then Settings tab)
  • Click the Download Web Connector Configuration File link and save to a location you will remember.
  • The file name will be SMQB Service.qwc. You will want to know where this saves. Typically it will go into your downloads folder.
Now follow these steps from within QuickBooks Desktop:
  • Open your QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Download the QBWC CP3 tool. Select Open.
  • Choose Select file, then search for your QWC file. This will put the file in the Enter QBWC file Location. Select Open.
  • Select Remove Stamp.
  • This will open up a QuickBooks Application Certificate. Select Yes, whenever this QuickBooks company file is open and then Continue.
  • An Application Access Request window will open. Click Yes.
  • Select OK on the Access Confirmation window.
  • A message about doing a backup will appear, select OK.
  • You’ll get a confirmation that the Owner ID has been removed. Select OK.
  • Close the QBWC CP3 Tool

Now you will be able to re-register QuickBooks on your new computer. For instructions on how to re-install QuickBooks Web Connector on your new computer, go here:
